NJ Hiking: Connect

A Social Network for New Jersey Hiking Enthusiasts

My nephew likes hikes like Boutique Crag, Lemon squeeze to Sky top in Mohonk. The more jumping around and climbing on boulders the better. I live in Central NJ in looking for similar hikes closer to home. Any suggestions?

There's not much scrambling on hikes in central Jersey unfortunately. Have you been to Sourland Mountain Preserve in Somerset County? http://njhiking.com/nj-hikes-sourland.php - There isn't really scrambling on the trail per se, but there are a lot of large rocks along it and bouldering is allowed.

Been there done that. Not much of a scamble to keep my nephew happy.

How about the Giant Stairs in the Palisades - a mile long stretch of nothing but boulders.

There are some pictures on my blog but they don't do the boulders justice - it is much more massive that what it looks like in the pictures.

I agree with Daniela. The Giant Stairs is probably the closest you'll get to the Mohonk scramble in NJ. BTW my son is 11 & those 2 are his favorites.
