For foliage resources & reports, update your bookmarks to "NJ Fall Foliage".

The 2013 NJ Fall Foliage season has begun!

Autumn color can be fleeting and elusive, so to help others in search of where the color is around New Jersey (as well as nearby areas in PA/NY), you can post Fall Foliage updates in this forum.

For a list of foliage resources, check out our "NJ Fall Foliage" page. (If you have foliage resources we don't have listed there - web sites, twitter feeds, or whatnot - post them here and we'll add to our foliage page)

Post the park or area, the amount of color (ie, unchanged, low, medium, peak color), and the date, and we'll add the report to the "NJ Fall Foliage" page. Include a photo if you have one!

Some color change starting already. [report via Bob S.]

The maples are starting to turn in Sussex county. I saw two flocks of southbound geese yesterday.

Long Pond Ironworks State Park - Monksville Reservoir 09/29/13

Check the park web site before heading out to Long Pond Ironworks State Park because there are trail closures.

Catskill Park, NY - Balsam Mountain and Belleayre Mountain - 10/3/13

I had intended to go hiking in the Catskills next week but due to the previous weather forecast of rain every day next week (that has, of course, changed now) I decided to go this week and not risk missing the fall foliage.  I would say it's just starting to peak in Catskills.  Still lots of green in the forest with color in the canopy.  On the I-87 drive noticed Harriman is starting to look colorful.

Awesome weekend foliage wise to be out in Sussex County (well any weekend is a good one to be in Sussex County !). Not peak yet, but leaves coming down & nice photogenic colors definitely happening.

Here was view looking North along the Kittatinny Ridge on Sat 10/5/13 - Low towards Moderate Colors

Some nice colors at Little Swartswood Lake (Sunday 10//6/13)

High Point State Park - 10/13/13

I found the foliage to be somewhat disappointing.  I think a lot of the color was lost in the rain and wind storm on Monday, 10/7.  There was a lot of leaf drop and most of the remaining color was brown/drab yellow.  There were still some spots of color, just not as much as I had expected.

Sterling Forest, NY - High color, with leaf drop that seemed more than normal (likely due to recent rains).

Rt. 17 in Mahwah; Garden State Parkway Paramus area - Moderate color change, still large sections of green.

You may call it the "Bare Rock Trail", I call it "The Flintstone Highway"!

Hiked through Norvin Green yesterday (14OCT2013). Color varied a bit throught the area but on average I'd call it Medium since there was still a decent amount of green left on some trees. Starting from Weis ecology center and looped around via Otter hole -> Hewitt-Butler -> Wyanokie Crest -> Outlaw -> Wyanokie Circular -> HB again -> Posts Brook -> Lower -> WCL again -> Mine -> HB again -> OH back to Weis.
