Cheesequake State Park, Blue Trail - hike info is up

Cheesequake State Park contains a diverse mix of hardwood forest, Atlantic white cedar swamp, and pineland. This short route passes near Hooks Creek Lake, onto the Blue Trail to Perrine Pond before picking up the Green trail.

4.3 miles. Easy, with some rolling hills, a few minor steep sections.

I was at Cheesequake on Friday, December 18 and did the green, blue, yellow and an unmarked trail. They did not have any maps in the office, just a photo copy which was useless because in black and white you could not see the trails on it at all. I took a picture of the map in the parking lot and colored in the trails if it is of help to anyone. The blue and green trails on the parking lot map looked to be the same color so I tried to identify them better. (Note that when you descend the steps down to the lake on the yellow trail, you can go right and loop around the lake on an unmarked trail ending up back on the yellow trail steps.)

Thanks for the map, I've added it to the hike page on the main njHiking.com site. I hadn't looked for a map there in ages because we're so familiar with the trails, but I am really surprised all they had was a BW map! This is more helpful than the usual park maps they have anyway.

We were in Cheesequake on Saturday December 12. Set up a 'base camp' by the lake for a campfire and winter picnic and then did about 2.5 mile hike from the red trail ( at crabbing bridge) to yellow and around the lake and back to base. Clear and cold. Cheesequake is the closest state park to where we live and a pleasent hike without driving too far. I hope to take Grandson, Aleks, to their kids winter survival program on January 17th. Merry Christmas hikers, I hope Santa is good to you.
