That's really funny that both of your dogs want nothing to do with those steps!

We did a hike from Buttermilk to Crater Lake to Hemlock and back a couple yrs ago, and I think we ran into some confusion around the one end of Hemlock between the map and where the trail seemed to go. The area around Crater is a tad hard to match up also, with all the woods roads in the area.

Oh my, it must be a shepherd thing on those Buttermilk Falls steps. Last year mine did the exact same thing and me, being afraid of heights, was white-knuckling holding onto the railing for dear life while dragging her uncooperative dead weight along with me. I am eternally grateful there were no witnesses to this. The only reason I forced the issue was I had parked over at Tillman Ravine so I was too far into the hike to abort, if at all possible. I got her and myself to the top, barely. …
(Then she wags her tail like "Look what I just did!") I haven't hiked the Blue Mountain Lakes trails yet and that was actually one of my options for yesterday so we almost ran into each other, except at the last minute I decided to head up to Fishkill Ridge Conservation Area near Beacon, NY. That is most definitely a hike that is worth the trip but if you ever go there don't start from Mount Beacon Park because that trail begins with a huge flight of steps. Fortunately I knew that so I parked at a different trail head.
