Delaware Water Gap/Worthington State Forest - 11/15/09

I did the Mount Tammany/Sunfish Pond/Dunnfield Creek hike and it was fabulous! Got there at 8 am and there were already many cars in the parking lot but only passed one couple on the red dot trail going up Mt. Tammany. The only problem with being there that early is the clouds were very low and obstructed the views but it's still neat to look down on clouds. I could actually see more than what came out in the pictures.

Mt. Minsi from the first overlook, looking through the cloud:

The Tammany fire road was spectacular. WIth no leaves on the trees, it was a 3 mile continuous scenic overlook to the right. Did not see any other people at all until Sunfish Pond.

The Dunnfield Creek trail is very nice with the sound of water all the way. Passed quite a few hikers going in the opposite direction on this trail.

At the end of the hike, around 2 pm, there were tons of people, the parking lot was packed and spilling over into overflow parking. Definitely get there early even at this time of year.

I would, however, not advise doing the hike after having been to a cocktail party the night before. You will need good balance for crossing Dunnfield Creek multiple times. Also try to pick a day when there will not be an overturned tractor trailer shutting down I-80 east where you have to sit for over 3 hours with an almost empty gas tank. Just sayin'.

This is one of our most favorite hikes. And crossing Dunnfield when its high after a lot of rain can be tricky... even without a few cocktails the night before!

Looks like a great trail. Thanks for the tips.
