I just returned from a Hike up Buttermilk Falls and Along the AT. The Falls are the best I have ever seen them, the Blue Trail up to the AT is clear with no visible damage from Hurricane Irene. However, the trail is presently very wet in many spots and totally covered with a sheet of water in other spots. All wet areas were easily passable, but we had warp up several of the narrow rocky parts.
Note:
The Lower Road (Mountain Road coming from Dimon Road) to the Buttermilk Falls Parking Lot was closed (by a Metal Gate). We parked outside the gate just past the cemetery and walked about 45 minutes to the Trail head.
I was wondering how Buttermilk Falls looked with all this rain, we always seem to hit it at a trickle. Chik Falls in Norvin Green was going nuts on Sunday.
Good to hear Buttermilk Trail wasn't damaged, just wet. I thought maybe it was because it was listed as closed:

I'm surprised that road is still closed. We were there Sept. 10th-11th and had to park at the same place. We were a little concerned because the staff at the Stokes office said there was no overnight parking allowed except at the falls. Thankfully they were lenient. We ended up walking/bushwacking up the old Woods Road to the AT and then spent the night on Rattlesnake Mt. The Woods road was very beat up, and very wet, just a few days after Tropical storm Lee. And the entire forest smelled like mushrooms - which we saw many of.
So was there any damage to the road?
Update: On 10/20/11 Mountain Road leading to Buttermilk Falls was open. However, the Millbrook/Wallpack entry roades were closed.
However Buttermilk Falls could be visited by taking 206 (just north of the Stokes Ranger Station) to Struble Rd. to Dimon Rd. to Mountain Rd.
