Fall Foliage in New Jersey - 2010

Autumn color can be fleeting and elusive, so to help others in search of where the color is happening around New Jersey, we started a forum where you can post Fall Foliage updates.

Post the park or area, the amount of color (ie, unchanged, low, medium, peak color), and the date. Include a pic if you have one!

Cheesequake State Park - October 8, 2010

Mostly unchanged except around Hooks Creek Lake off of the yellow trail - splashes of color starting to pop.

Funny, we went for a quick hike at Cheesequake today as well (Oct 8th). The color is changing oddly this year, normally Jersey would start peaking next week.

We were just in New Hampshire's White Mountains this week and it was peaking. Driving through MA and CT... not that much color.

How funny! And I was in NH last weekend and thought the exact same thing driving through MA and CT - where's the color? In Pisgah State Park in southern NH it did look like any leaves that had turned had been knocked down by heavy rains just prior to the weekend. I hiked at Minnewaska State Park, NY yesterday - Nice color now, I would think peaking next weekend. Ramapo Mountain State Forest - October 10, 2010. Low to medium color change: sections of color, but still a decent amount of green. Traveling up Route 287 from New Brunswick to the park had low to moderate change as well.

10/16/10 - Moderate color at Cheesequake State Park.

10/13/10 - Some low color change spotted in the Apshawa Preserve, West Milford. In southern Jersey, some color pops spotted in the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR.

10/10/10 - Low to moderate color change at Ramapo Mountain State Forest, and along route 287 from New Brunswick north to the park.

Delaware Water Gap/Worthington State Forest/Mount Tammany - October 17, 2010

Kind of a mixed bag. Some brilliant color from the outside looking at the mountains, especially around the Delaware River. But from inside on the trails almost all yellows with lots of yellow leaves down (probably from the wind on Saturday) a red or orange tree here and there, lots of completely green trees and some that are just starting to turn. Yeah, I wanna head up that way soon to capture some fall colors and some waterfall pictures as well. I might be going to PA side for the waterfalls though.

Still some fantastic color just north of The Gap around Milford, Pa. We were there last weekend. These were taken from some bushwacked overlooks on The Cliff Park Trail just outside of Milford. Put together a 9+ml. loop. Great day.

Also did the Jersey side including Stokes State Forest

Did the other side above the Delaware to Sunrise Mountain. Don't go there on a weekend if you can help it. Mucho families w/very unruly, disobedient, non-trail-trained kids thanks to their equally non-trail (or common-sense trained) parents! Ugh!

Oh, and if you want to see falls, Emmet, go no further than Raymondskill Falls at the foot of the Cliff Park Trails. Tallest falls (longest drop, that is) in Pa. Three levels and bee-utiful!

Another great Fall's Viewing are the multiple falls at PEEC (Pa. Environmental Education Center) at Dingman's Ferry. Lots of elevations & natural steps along ridges approx. 6+ml. to view at least 7 or 8 falls. Here's just one:

We will be checking out the bushkill area on our roadtrip tomorrow so we'll see if we may drive up to raymondskill. It does look very nice. Thanks for sharing the photos :)

10/23/10 - Delaware Water Gap, Mt. Tammany, Sunfish Pond: high to peak color mixed with some leaf drop and green leaves. Rt. 206 corridor through Chester has some nice high to peak color.

My friend and I just visited both of those falls including bushkill falls as well. We did a two day road tip back and forth. All falls were spectacular. Got some great photos :) Bummer we could not get to the very bottom of Raymondskill falls. It would have been great to capture the whole falls in one photo. The falls around PEEC were stunning as was a beutiful hike.

10/31/10 - Cooper Mill/Black River in Chester Twp: brilliant peak color mixed with about 60% leaf drop.
