We are heading to Delaware Water Gap and High Point in 2 weeks, and were going to make a side trip to Hacklebarney (which we have hiked and loved) and Schooley's Mountain... is Schooley's Mountain…Continue

Fair Hill NRMA (Md.)

I took advantage of a beautiful day on Friday and decided to head to Fair Hill NRMA in Maryland (actually right across the MD and DE border on Rte. 273) GPS told me it would take about 90 minutes, however, I under estimated the crappiness of the NJ Turnpike and I-95, and it took close to 2 hours.  Anyway, I have wanted to do this hike for a while as it is a beautiful area with primary rolling hills and a mix of open fields and woods trails. I decided to start on the orange trail which is a 5.8…See More

Eldora Nature Preserve

Not too long ago there was an article in the local paper about a nature preserve in Cape May County that has received very little publicity, so I decided to check it out. I pulled it up on google and printed out the directions, which I soon learned were wrong ( I will give you the correct ones at the end.) This would be a very good hike to combine with Belleplain SF, as it is in the same forest area. No signage on the way there,  the first sign you will see is actually the parking area. There…See More

"We've tried out the apps, they're decent but we don't find ourselves using them much - probably because I tend to plan hikes by pulling from lots of different sources and using our main computer. Having the maps available in the apps…"

Iphone Pocket Ranger App

Was wondering if anybody else has downloaded the NJ State Park app on the Iphone (its run by Pocket Ranger, so you have to search under that name, but they are created in alliance with the State Parks).. I downloaded the ones for PA, NJ and DE . It's pretty interesting and even breaks down parks by activities if you wish. Some of them have maps, and they can all give you instant directions from where you are. I have noticed, however, the DE app does not work at this time so hopefully that will…See More

Washingtons Crossing and Baldpate Mountain on Pres Day Weekend

Seeing that the weather on Saturday was suppose to be beautiful (for February anyway) , me and the wife decided we needed to do some hiking this weekend.  I decided on Washingtons Crossing since it was Pres. Day weekend, hoping something might be going on there. So we headed up Friday night, and stayed overnite in Ewing so we could get out Saturday morning. We headed out Sat. morning to Washingtons Crossing SP, and parked at the HQ by Bear Tavern Rd. and walked the Continental Lane the entire…See More

Baldpate Mountain and Washingtons Crossing SP

Finally, a decent day off with no rain in the forecast... I really wanted to get out hiking since I have not been able to do much this summer. Now, living in South Jersey, there is no where to go with any kind of decent views, so I figured I would have to drive a little bit. I had decided to go to Baldpate Mountain outside of Trenton, with a side trip to Washingtons Crossing SP in NJ/PA. The ride took about 1 1/2 hours , which really wasn't bad and faster than I thought. There are very few…See More

Maurice River Bluffs

Seems every time I go, this place has changed something. We went last week and noticed a couple things.  First of all, part of the blue trail is STILL closed.. not sure the reason, but has been closed for close to a year now since my first visit. The third time I went, I went by the closed sign and followed the trail anyway ( I don't usually do this, but curiosity finally got the best of me) and found no reason for closure (at least visibly). Anyways, last week the white trail was closed which…See More
